Recently one of my neighbors in The
Woodlands said she was told by a friend that in two years our property taxes
were going to increase by over 44%. She ask me if that was correct. I replied that
I thought her friend was very far off. It appeared this person was
still confused about the debate regarding the possibility of incorporating in
November 2014, a question I thought everyone knew we had settled.
The consulting studies performed during
2011 and 2012 concluded that a significant tax increase would be required to
cover the perceived additional costs brought on by incorporating as a “city.” Several of us on the Board did not buy
into these estimates and believe there were many things we could do to reduce
or eliminate the estimated increased costs.
In August 2012, the Board passed a formal resolution declaring it saw no reason to have an election now or in the foreseeable future. Right now we only have to be concerned with an incorporation vote no later than November 2057. Only after this date is there any risk of annexation by Houston or Conroe. Of course something else might come along that would push for an earlier election but right now it is hard to envision what that might be.
